Mojo the frisbee dog

Mojo takes his frisbee game seriously. As with most pit bulls, he can jump like a deer. The lighting outside was at that perfect evening time so I went inside and grabbed my camera. It's tough to be the one playing and taking pictures at the same time. I figured I'd give it one chance. As luck would have it, this is the first (and only) shot I took. He did catch it, by the way.

Welder making an iron heart

I was walking around the south side of Pittsburgh the other day and I came across this welding shop right alongside the railroad tracks. I stopped in and asked if he minded if I took a quick picture of him welding. I said I didn't want to bother him. He said, what do you want me to weld? I said, really, just a random shot would be fine. Just then, my young daughter walked into the shop and his eyes popped open. "I have an idea", he shot back. He ran into the back, grabbed a couple of pieces of iron. He banged, grinded and made all sorts of noise, then, called us over. He told her to turn away from the light, and asked if I was ready. I set the camera on Av, pointed it at him, and turned away, myself. I took this shot of him welding together a beautiful iron heart for my daughter to take home, no charge. She was happy, and I was, too. So, here's the shot:

Polar Bear Picture taken because of a dream

Here's an interesting shot for me. I was visiting my mom in Pittsburgh. I was planning to leave on
Wednesday morning, but, on Tuesday night, she had a dream that I was at the Pittsburgh Zoo looking at the new Polar Bear exhibit and I got a great picture.

She told me about her dream. My reaction was "gee, no pressure". Anyway, we all went to the zoo. When I arrived at the Polar Bear exhibit, they were out of the water and according to the people waiting, they had been out for some time. I had my camera ready, set up on my Monostat monopod, and then, SPLASH, one of them jumped right in and I shot this picture. Wow. Captured a picture because of a dream. I love it.

Pit bull birthday cake

My daughter came up with the idea to make Mojo a birthday cake our of dog bones glued together with peanut butter and miscellaneous dog treats and food. He *loved* it.

He is undoubtedly the best dog ever, and he deserved it.

Obligatory cat picture

I'm not much of a cat person. In fact, I'm quite allergic to them. This cat climbed up onto my leg just before I took this picture and its claws poked my leg through my jeans. Those places swelled up like bug bites.

In any case, being the photographer that I am, I took a picture of him. Scraggly, but, still cute in a cat sort of way. That's about all the gushing I can do since I'm a dog person.

Cool/Scary FAA Display of Aloha Flight 243

It's coming up on the 50th anniversary of the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) so they're setting up all sorts of informative displays around the place. I spotted this display on my way back from the cafeteria.

It's as interesting as it is chilling to me. It's detailed and facinating to look at until it starts to sink in that it's not just a model made by a hobbyist for fun. It's a carefully constructed recreation of what must have been a horrifying flight.
